Lefaucheux 1858 N

This revolver is one “1858 N” N means “nouveau” (new) and not Navy. And it is gone back to 1869, last year of possible use by the navy, since this one sought already a revolver with central percussion in 1868.

When Eugene charged the MAS with manufacturing his revolvers for him in 1858, the MAS called this revolver “1858” and built only the round trigger guards more. Those of this class carry markings of the MAS. But there is not specific model “1858”.

Those which were useful in the navy (approximately 2.500) have an anchor on the cap, exactly like the 1892.

From 1865, all models 1854 returned to the MAS for some reason that it is, were equipped with the rail guides rod of ejection and renamed “1858 N”. But much did not undergo this improvement.

As this revolver is struck of an anchor the cap, it is indeed a “navy”. According to the nomenclatures of the MAS, a “model 1858 N”.

They were in the beginning entirely blue.
